Welcome to Jones-Haywood Dance School (JHDS), celebrated in the nation's capital for seventy-five years for its commitment to providing high-quality dance training and arts education to students of all races and socio-economic backgrounds.
Founded in 1941, JHDS has trained students who have gone on to celebrate careers in dance as members of The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Philadanco Dance Company, Royal Netherlands Ballet Company, The Washington Ballet, Paul Taylor Dance Company, on Broadway, and as choreographers; actors of stage, film and television; and dance educators. Others have used the discipline, grace and focus gained through their training to excel in a broad range of professions.
Whether students are interested in pursuing a career in dance, or just experiencing and enjoying the art form, Jones-Haywood Dance School offers the best possible training at all levels to help them grow and become more confident about themselves as dancers and responsible citizens.

JHDS will be a dominant force and leader in offering students of color and other racially diverse students the highest calibre of training and exposure to dance possible.

The mission of JHDS is to ut​ilize art of dance to instill discipline, self-esteem and strong character in its students--enabling them to develop to their full potential. Thus JHDS students will excel in their preferred endeavors. The school will maintain its legacy of excellence by training the next generation of dance artists, inspiring youth through visionary community outreach programs, and building new informed and appreciative audiences of arts consumers through strong educational programs.
